The Dr. Theodore A. Atlas Foundation is a community service organization that provides financial, legal and emotional support to those in need, paying special attention to the needs of children. The organization was founded in 1997 by boxing trainer and commentator, Teddy Atlas. Founded in the spirit of Dr. Atlas, his father, who provided free medical care to those who were not able to afford proper care and made house calls to his patients until he was 80 years old, the Foundation has attempted since its inception to come to the aid of those less fortunate. Often, those in these very difficult situations would have otherwise fallen between the cracks.
The organization annually teams with several celebrity athletes and entertainment celebrities including Bill Parcells, Chad Pennington, John McEnroe, George Foreman, Sugar Ray Leonard, Pete Rose,Chris Noth, Danny Aiello and Steven Baldwin. The annual “Teddy” Dinner, which happens to be the single largest source of the Foundation’s donations, hosts more than one thousand supporters.
This year the dinner will be held on Thursday, November 17, 2011 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Staten Island. A Cocktail Reception will be held from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. followed by dinner at 8 p.m. Guests will receive an open bar all night. Proceeds from the tickets for the dinner as well as any money raised during the event will go towards making a difference in the lives of countless children and families. Inspiration comes by way of seeing the strength and hope in another. The lives impacted by the Atlas Foundation become inspiration for those around them as well as those who helped to make a difference in that person’s life and for those who remain in need. The smallest donation, that only takes moments to make, can literally change someone’s life.
